Food and Football

Went to Buffalo Wild Wings for Sunday's football games but the wait was insane so we ended up going to my all time favorite Italian place: Johnny Carino's!

While watching the embarrassing and pathetic loss of the Ravens to the Broncos I was atleast able to enjoy a super delish Caesar salad:)

Forgot to snap a pic of the Grilled Chicken Bowtie Festival but that, too, was uh-may-zing!

Holiday Tradition: Peppermint Ice Cream!!

One if my favorite holiday treats: Peppermint Ice Cream!

I always love seasonal Flavors of ice cream. I forgot we had this in the cart at Walmart and went perusing the aisles for the heck of it. Then we rushed home remembering it was melting.

Needless to say from the partially melted state I couldn't wait for it to freeze and started eating it:)

New Favorite: Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm

I have chronic chapped lips and have gone through countess tubes, sticks, pots, and jars of various lip care products searching for a remedy.

I've finally found one that I LOVE and more importantly: IT WORKS.

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm with SPF 25.

I remember seeing a review mentioning this product but it was months ago and I never got around to purchasing because where I lived at the time would require me to order online.

At a recent trip to the Main Exchange on post the little blue tube caught my eye and I decided to buy.

Nothing too special about the tube, looks like a standard squeezy tube in a simple but eye catching blue color. I purchased the Natural Mint.

First and foremost I noticed the lovely mint smell! It smelled like a homemade lipgloss I made using melted beeswax and a mint candy when I was a kid. Ahhhhhh, nostalgia:) It's not a synthetic smell at all and nowhere near overpowering like some mint smells can be.

Texture: slick, smooth, slightly jelly like. Applies like butter! And stays put on the lips, isn't messy or drippy

After a few minutes your lips start to get a cooling sensation that may or may not be a pro/con based on personal preference. Either way, I'm in love! My lips have never felt softer and the chapped factor is completely gone after repeating the application once it wears off, for me usually about 4-5 hours.

I will be stocking up on this new found favorite next chance I get.

RECOMMEND?: YES! If you suffer from chapped lips I highly recommend trying this out. At $7.00 for 0.25 oz it's a bit pricey but in my mind well worth it:)

Meet Audie

Audie Murphy...the best damn dog I could've ever asked for.

Anyone who knows me knows that if there's one thing I am it's an animal lover. We happened upon Audie by a chance encounter.

We had been living in upstate NY (stationed waaaaay up near the Canadian Border) and travelled the Syracuse after finding an ad for a "FREE" Great Dane that the owner could no longer afford to care for. We met him and it was love and we brought him home...a full grown Dane in a tiny duplex apartment...along with our other crazy pets. Our place was "stuffed" with furry friends :)

Annnnnyway, as I was looking over the paperwork the owner had given us I noticed that there was a breeder contract included and that the name on the contract was NOT the same as that of the owner we had just gotten him from. I tried contacting the owner and couldn't get ahold of anyone. I noticed a clause saying that in any event the owner can't care for the Dane that he/she had to be returned to the breeder. I called the breeder to inform him/her that we had one of their Danes. I offered to bring him back to them.

My husband and I went the next day with the paperwork in hand prepared to surrender him back. However, we were met with a pleasant surprise when they offered to void the contract signed by the original owner and after seeing how happy he seemed to be with us let us keep him. Not only that but they had a new litter of puppies and a few older Dane rescues.

Knowing that Sammy (the dane we had) was playful and would likely stomp a puppy to death trying to play, we knew that if we wanted another Dane it would have to be an adult.

Along came Audie...

and my heart melted.

His previous owner surrendered him without stating the reason but we as well as the breeder, feel he was abused (another story for another day).

After months of back and forth about whether we could afford to keep such a destructive dog we finally came to an understanding with him about who was the household boss...

and now he never leaves my side.

<3 him more than words can say

Starting my day

This is what I wake up to most mornings: wavy morning hair:)

So here we go...again

I always read adorable crafting or food blogs, which in turn inspires me to start my own. I have the best intentions, mess around with blogger settings and templates, post daily for a week and then alas...months go by with nothing. I s'pose that's out of boredom, or maybe laziness?

But here we go again with another attempt and this time I'm a little more motivated. I've started into a whole new creative lifestyle, using my hobbies and crafting skill to lighten the load in terms of bills and expenditures. Basically, if I can "MAKE" what I need without spending much, if anything, then that's what I'll do.

Let's talk title: 2nd Room Studio.

For hours on end I searched the web for ideas for a pithy blog name. Don't you ever get green with envy while reading blogs that seem to have these super cute, ironically cultural names?

Unfortunately I'm not one of those ironic people. I chose 2nd room studio because that's where most of my daily life takes place: the 2nd Room in our house. my sewing, crafting, "chill out" time all revolves around that room. It's like my little cave.

Before you get ahead of yourself thinking that it's some cute little sanctuary though let me stop you. It's full of "still packed" boxes from nearly 2 years ago, loose threads and stray pins, fabric scraps, a twin sized guest bed covered in fabric that has yet to be washed, pressed, and folded. i've managed to secure myself a small "cubby" of space for a rickety old table that my husband got at our last duty station because the Commander was going to junk it. On top of this table is my sewing machine and embroidery machine. Closely nestled next to the table on top of 2 of my husband's black tuff boxes is another emrboidery machine. Why 2? I'm a hoarder. No really, I am. I "can't" get rid of it.

My cave isn't "slobbish" by any means...just...well....uh....chaotic?

One of these days I'll find my way to the floor.

This is not that day.

But who knows...follow along with 2nd Room Studio and you may see that day come sooner rather than later:D
